Privacy Policy

Your microphone is sensitive. Our approach is simple: ask first, process audio in your browser where the tool supports it, and be specific about anything that leaves your device.

Privacy summary

Microphone audio
Live analysis happens locally in your browser. The site does not upload raw microphone audio.
Analytics data
The current site does not include analytics, advertising trackers or analytics cookies.
Third-party processing
Font and code delivery services receive normal web requests, but the site does not send them microphone audio or reports.

What data the site handles

Decibel Meter Lab is designed to work without an account. The current tools do not ask for your name, email address or payment information.

Depending on the tool you use, the browser may handle microphone input, a local audio file you choose, measurement results, device labels and settings reported by your browser, or notes you enter. Most of this stays on your device as described below.

Live audio: used in memory to calculate meters, waveforms and frequency information.

Local files: decoded and analyzed on your device when you choose a file in the Spectrum Analyzer.

Functional storage: a saved meter calibration and bass-test notes can be kept in your browser's local storage.

Downloads: reports and exports are created in the browser and saved through your browser's download controls.

Microphone permission and audio

Microphone access starts only after you select a control such as Start Measuring or Start Microphone Test and allow the browser's permission request. You can deny access, stop the tool, close the page or revoke permission in your browser or operating-system settings.

For the Decibel Meter, Spectrum Analyzer and live parts of the Microphone Test, audio is processed locally in the active browser tab. Short audio buffers are used to calculate readings and draw visualizations. The site does not upload or store the raw microphone stream.

The Microphone Test has an optional short recording feature. A sample is created only when you press Record Sample. It remains in browser memory for local playback until you discard or replace it, leave the page, or the browser clears the page session. The site does not upload that recording.

Analytics, cookies and browser storage

The current site code does not include an analytics service, advertising tracker, marketing pixel or analytics cookie. There is no cookie-consent interface because those tracking technologies are not currently in use.

The site does use local storage, which is different from a cookie, for limited functional purposes:

  • saving a device-specific Decibel Meter alignment until you reset it or clear site data; and
  • saving Bass Test session notes in that browser until you clear the notes or clear site data.

If analytics or other non-essential cookies are introduced later, this policy and any legally required consent controls should be updated before they are used.

Third-party services

The site loads a small number of assets from third-party delivery services. When your browser requests those assets, the provider can receive ordinary request information such as your IP address, browser details, requested URL, time and referring page. Their own privacy terms govern that processing.

Google Fonts and Fontshare
Provide the site's typefaces.
jsDelivr
Delivers the jsPDF library used to create some PDF reports in your browser.
Hosting infrastructure
Serves pages and may create standard security and access logs.

Decibel Meter Lab does not send raw microphone audio, selected local audio files or generated reports to these services through the current site code.

Saved reports and downloaded files

PDF, PNG, CSV and WAV exports are generated locally and downloaded through your browser. The site does not automatically receive or store a copy.

A report may include measurement statistics, timestamps, duration, a browser-reported device label, calibration information, chart snapshots or test notes you selected. Reports do not include raw microphone recordings. Once downloaded, the file is under your control; anyone with access to your device or a copy you share may be able to read it.

Log and technical data

Like most websites, the hosting infrastructure and third-party asset providers may receive standard technical request data, including IP address, browser and device type, requested page, timestamps, referring page and error or security events. This information may be used to deliver the site, protect it and diagnose failures.

The hosting provider may retain standard access and security logs. The retention period depends on the provider and the settings used to operate this site.

Data retention and your controls

  • Live microphone buffers: handled transiently while the tool runs and not saved by the site.
  • Optional microphone recording: kept in page memory until you discard or replace it, leave the page, or the browser ends the session.
  • Local settings and notes: remain in browser storage until you reset them or clear the site's stored data.
  • Downloaded files: remain wherever you save them until you delete them.
  • Technical logs: retention is set by the production host or third-party provider, not by the browser tools in this project.

Your privacy rights

Privacy rights vary by location and can include asking to access, correct or delete personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, or receive a portable copy. Because the current tools have no user accounts and do not upload microphone audio or reports, most tool data is controlled directly on your device.

You can revoke microphone permission, clear site data in your browser, reset saved settings, clear saved notes and delete downloaded reports at any time. If you believe Decibel Meter Lab holds personal data about you, use the contact information below and describe your request.

Children's privacy

Decibel Meter Lab is a general-audience audio utility and is not designed to collect personal information from children. A parent, guardian or educator should supervise a child's use of microphone features and any report sharing. If you believe a child provided personal information to the site, contact Decibel Meter Lab so the issue can be reviewed.

Policy updates

This policy may change when the site adds or removes features, providers or data practices. Material changes will be reflected on this page, and the “Last updated” date will be revised. If a change requires consent, the site should ask before the new processing begins.
