Using the site
By accessing or using Decibel Meter Lab, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please stop using the site.
Decibel Meter Lab provides browser-based tools for estimating sound levels, viewing audio information, testing playback and microphones, and learning about sound. Its supporting information is for general information.
Measurements and decisions
Results are reference estimates, not exact or certified measurements. They vary with the microphone, device, browser, operating system, settings, sound source and surroundings. An alignment offset or repeatability check does not certify a reading.
Do not use the tools or content as the basis for legal, regulatory, occupational, medical or safety-critical decisions. Those uses require an appropriate professional, instrument and procedure. You are responsible for how you interpret, use and share results or downloaded reports.
Read our Methodology, Accuracy & Limitations and Validation pages for the signal path, known limitations and repeatability guidance.
Microphone and privacy
Microphone features request access only after you start a feature that needs it. Your browser prompts if permission has not already been granted. You can deny or revoke permission and stop the tool. Browser and device support, input selection, gain control, noise suppression and other processing can affect whether a tool works and what it shows.
Live microphone analysis runs in your browser; the current site code does not upload raw microphone audio. See the Privacy Policy for details about optional local recordings, browser storage, downloads and third-party services.
Ownership and acceptable use
The site's original text, design, code and branding are protected by intellectual property laws. You may use the site for its intended purpose. Do not copy or redistribute site materials without permission unless applicable law allows it.
Use the site lawfully and respect others' rights. Do not interfere with its operation, attempt unauthorized access, or use automated requests in a way that disrupts the service.
Links and availability
The site may link to external information or use third-party services to deliver assets. We do not control those sites or services; their own terms and privacy practices may apply.
We may update, change, pause or remove tools and content. We cannot promise that every feature will always be available, error-free or supported by every device or browser.
Warranties and liability
The site, tools and content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted operation, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Decibel Meter Lab and its operators are not liable for losses arising from use of the site, reliance on its results, service interruptions or third-party services. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms do not designate a governing law or exclusive court. Your rights under applicable law remain unaffected.
Changes and contact
We may revise these terms as the site changes. The current version will appear here with an updated date. If you continue to use the site after revised terms are posted, the revised terms apply to that use.
For questions about these terms, email decibelmeterlab@gmail.com.
